Gay.com member Ken wrote to us asking for some travel advice. He said he was heading to Fort Lauderdale and wanted some tips on local hot spots.

His email was so specific — and so specifically original — we wanted to reproduce it:

I've been to Fort Lauderdale and love it. But I only get to go about once per year for a short time and for this trip, I want to become more aware of what's there for gay men. Ok — so here is a list of things I'm interested in getting tips on in Fort Lauderdale:

Gyms with hottest guys
Healthy restaurants
Best place to stare off into space — I'm not kidding...
Best place to pick up guys
Best beach to cruise guys
Best place to find a turtle neck bikini — kidding
Best place to observe natives in their natural habitat...

That's what Mobile Boy Ken asked for so we asked gay.com readers who live in the Fort Lauderdale area to help him! Readers offered Ken suggestions in response to his questions above and posted them to the comments section below so he can check them out.

Ken— if you're a dog owner, you'll find Fort Lauderdale very dog-friendly.

Yes, there are tons of hot guys and if you ask me, the best place to people watch is the one mile Riverwalk. It's a beautiful mile, and the scenery is breathtaking. You'll be surprised at the amount of cute guys you see there too... :)

Sozo Sushi is a great place to have dinner, and I had a great stay at the Worthington Guest house.

Bottom line — if you're a gay man in Lauderdale, you won't be bored. I go three times a year on business and definitely prefer it to Miami. Lauderdale is like the SF of the south.

Hey Ken,

There are so many beaches in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. The great thing about being in Ft. Lauderdale is that you're so close to Miami. Miami Beach itself is a great place to hang out. There is a portion of the regular beach that is classified as a Gay Beach. Like there are rainbow flags and everything. Now if you're comfortable with being naked, then there's also Haulover Beach which is a little closer to Fort Lauderdale. That's our nude beach here. If you go to the north end, that's the section classified by us locals as the gay end. And it's been my experience that the guys at Haulover are very friendly so you should be able to meet some cool guys there. Well, good luck with your trip and I hope you have fun.

Ken, in response to your Ft Lauderdale query (no pun intended):

Gyms with hottest guys — LA Fitness on Federal Highway. It used to be Mainstreet but that gym recently closed.

Healthy restaurants — My favorite right now is Seasons 52. Check out their website.

Best place to stare off into space — Any spot on the beach.

Best place to pick up guys — Georgie's Alibi

Best beach to cruise guys — The strip along Fort Lauderdale Beach between Sunrise and Las Olas...also, Las Olas.

Best place to find a turtle neck bikini — hahaha...Fashion week at Bryant Park!

Best place to observe natives in their natural habitat — nowhere in Broward County since most of the residents are transplants as you will be able to tell by the various accents and languages spoken.
